the Evohippus
The Evohippus, my personal breed, is a mutation of the domesticatie horse we all know today. The mutation has happened as a result of the purest form of creativity through fantasy. Where the Eohippus, the first like small horse creature that roamed our planet 50 million years ago, my Evohippos stands on the other side of evolution, playing a different new role in society.

the project
All these sculptures and installaties created around the same horse are part of an art project by Belgian based artist Stef.
Every bloodline is created out of the artists' fantasy with full freedom in design and name giving, always based on history or future and as a reflector of our surrounding society and global influences.

the global story
Approximately 4,200 years ago, around 2200 BCE, the Sintashta culture—inhabitants of the Pontic–Caspian steppe —developed a lineage of horse characterized by a unique genetic mutation affecting the animal’s spine. This mutation made the horses notably more suitable for mounting and riding, transforming the relationship between humans and horses. Within just a few centuries, this horse lineage spread rapidly and replaced virtually all other horse populations throughout Eurasia—from the Iberian Peninsula in the west to Siberia in the east.
This equine revolution played an essential role in shaping human civilization. Rapid movement across vast territories promoted expansive trade, communication networks, and cultural diffusion. It fueled the rise of mounted warfare and chariot-based military strategies, redefined the scope of ancient empires, and became a foundational technology until the advent of mechanized transport millennia later.

History, as it often does, repeats itself. Not in identical form, but in rhythm, in echo, in spirit. Just as the Sintashta once set loose a new kind of horse across the steppes, forever altering the course of human civilization, I now release my own breed.
My Evohippus does not gallop with hooves, but with ideas. It is a sculptural species, born from stone, pigment, mosaic, and myth, forged in the heat of personal vision yet destined to evolve through its encounters with the world. And like its ancient predecessor, it is designed not to stay still.
It is my artistic obligation, my mission, to let this symbolic creature roam freely across borders and cultures. I do not seek to conquer the world, but to connect it and to bring my Evohippus into dialogue with diverse societies, materials, and traditions, and in doing so, to witness how it mutates under the influence of local craftsmanship, context, and collective imagination.
Wherever it travels, it gathers meaning. Wherever it lands, it leaves transformation in its wake.
